Emily Brewer's Record on Abortion

Brewer Called Planned Parenthood "Basically A Terrorist Organization." Moderator: “What changes to Virginia Abortion Law do you support?” Brewer: … any time you can reduce that number it’s important because life is precious… the lobby of Planned Parenthood is basically a terrorist organization, that hunts down Democrats and even Republicans… it’s just sad and sick.” [Republican Candidate Forum, 4/13/23, timestamp: 59:39]

Brewer Said She Was “Pro-Life At The Moment Of Conception.” According to WRIC, “Delegate Emily Brewer said she is ‘pro-life at the moment of conception.’ When asked if she would support an abortion ban at conception if it’s introduced, she said she would have to see the legislation.” [WRIC, 9/7/22]

When Asked If She Supported Any Exception To A Total Abortion Ban, Brewer Responded, “I Believe That Life Begins At Conception.” Moderator: “A ban is enacted, [would you support] exceptions? For health of the mother? Rape or Incest? Brewer: “I believe that life begins at conception. Moderator: “No exceptions?” Brewer: “I believe that we truly need to stand up for women and support them and come around them. One of my colleagues in the House of Delegates gave her testimony on the House floor – she worked for a crisis pregnancy center, and she was actually raped. It’s an awful thing to talk about but I will tell you this, life its promise, its value, it is love.” [Republican Candidate Forum, 4/13/23, timestamp: 1:03:19]

Brewer Celebrated The Supreme Court’s Decision To Overturn Roe v. Wade And Vowed To Sponsor Legislation To Restrict Abortion. According to Emily Brewer’s Facebook, “As a child of adoption, my mom chose life and every day I am thankful for it. I am proud the Supreme Court has overturned the wrongly decided Roe v. Wade decision. Next session, I will sponsor legislation that protects and will stand up for the unborn in Virginia. #roevwade”  [Facebook, @BrewerForVA, 6/24/22]

Emily Brewer's Record on Health Care

Brewer Opposed Medicaid Expansion And Said It Expanded “The Failed Obamacare System.” “Here is the quote I sent to the Smithfield Times this afternoon regarding my vote on Medicaid Expansion this week. ’I was disappointed that the General Assembly passed a budget that expands the failed Obamacare system. Medicaid expansion under Obamacare has failed in nearly every state it has been tried, increasing their budgets beyond all projections. With the current uncertainty of Medicaid funding at the federal level, this is not the time to begin experimenting with expansion. This year, the federal funding match for this program has already dropped 93%, and is expected to drop to 90% over the next 2 years. As we have seen in the past, the federal government often makes promises for funding they can’t keep and that never comes to fruition. It is only a matter of time until Virginians are left shouldering the cost of expanding Obamacare. For these reasons, I could not support the budget this week.” [Facebook, BrewerForVA, 6/1/18]
